The Ascent field guide

Build the Deck. Read the Fight.

Cards, weapons, rows and party decisions meet on the battlefield. Your next play starts with what is in your hand and what is across the line.

Make the hand work

Play cards from your hero's deck and use your energy to make the turn count. Attack, defend or support according to your cards and class. Enemy rows matter; the Ranger can reach beyond the front line.

Use the numbers shown on your cards and the enemy's next action to decide what needs doing now. A powerful card is only useful if it answers the fight in front of you.

Everyone plays

In co-op, the whole party plays during the same turn. Talk about who needs protection, which enemy should fall and who still has an action to make.

Press Ready when you have finished your plays. You are making one shared turn together, rather than waiting through a separate turn for every friend.

Party play: four heroes, simultaneous turns, everyone presses Ready.

A weapon and two spares

Carry a weapon alongside your card resources, with two spare weapons on the rack. Durability, weapon choice and the space in that rack give the journey another set of decisions.

When the rack is full, a new weapon means choosing what to leave. The forge lets you repair, improve and carve runes into your equipment.

Work the deck at the forge

Upgrade a card, remove one or reforge it. The forge is a place to make the deck more deliberate, alongside maintaining the weapon you carry.

At a Hearth, consider resting, mending the weapon or working a card at the forge. There is also a meal to cook. Read the available choices before spending the stop.
