The Ascent field guide

Bring Friends. Keep Your Saga.

Play solo or in a party of up to four. Everyone takes their turn together, and the run saves itself along the way.

Host a party or join one

Open Play together on the title screen, choose Host a party and share the friend code. Friends enter it and press Join. Each player picks a different hero; the host starts the saga.

Get everyone onto the newest build from the downloads page before starting. Ascent is a separate game from Faction Wars and does not use its invitation-only launcher.

Choose your hero: six classes, each with its own deck and playstyle.

Connecting to the host

Parties connect directly to the host. Online friend codes depend on the host router allowing the connection through UPnP. If the router cannot do that, the lobby reports the problem; the Same network code is available for players on the same local network.

There is no matchmaking relay. Keep the host in the session: if the host leaves, the other players return to the title screen.

One turn, four sets of ideas

The party can play cards at the same time. Coordinate attacks, protection and healing, then each player presses Ready when finished.

Call out an important target or a dangerous enemy action. Simultaneous turns give everyone something to do, but a little conversation still helps.

The host chooses the route. Each player picks their own card reward and Hearth choice; the host handles traders, events and chests for the party.

Party play: four heroes, simultaneous turns, everyone presses Ready.

Continue your saga

The run saves automatically, including in the middle of a fight. Continue your saga resumes at the start of the turn you were on.

Saves are stored in your Windows user AppData folder, outside the extracted game directory. Keep your save data when replacing a build. You can extract a new release beside the previous one.

The host keeps a co-op saga. Continuing it opens a rejoin lobby where friends reclaim their heroes; bots can fill the open seats. A player who disconnects during a live session is replaced by a bot.

Updates and feedback

There is no auto-updater yet. Return to the downloads page for the newest release and compare its version with the number in the bottom-right corner of the title screen.

When reporting a problem, include the build version, your hero, whether you were alone or in a party, and what happened just before it. A screenshot or recording can help explain the turn.
